Bounce LOVES Literacy
Inspired by our season
, we are delighted to launch our new Bounce LOVES Literacy projects. These projects celebrate the power of stories, drama and theatre. There are a host of opportunities to eplore literacy in new ways, be it through meeting an author or recording an audio book. Our projects include:
MAGNIFICENT ME
Inspired by Rupert Stratton's story The Magnificent Octopus
The Magnificent Octopus is an underwater sea adventure of an octopus who learns the value of friendship, his home and his own magnificent ability to make his shell collection shine.
- Magnificent Me is a cross curricular project for key stage one working with the writer and Bounce Theatre.
- During the workshops, children will discover the inspiration for writing the story. Through drama they will create their own magnificent characters to celebrate their individual skills, achievements and talents.
- Resource packs include information on how to submit your children's work for our Magnificent Us reading later on in the season. Featuring the words of children, read by professional actors to celebrate the launch of The Magnificent Octopus, this an event not to be missed - so we will be sending free tickets to all participating schools!
PLANET PHOENIX:MOTHER NATURE'S MANIFESTO
A playscript by Kirsten Hutton
Planet Phoenix is
- The project is an exciting opportunity to inspire children to write both fiction and non fiction work linking into literacy, geography and citizenship.
- During the workshop children will play scientists, reporters, astronauts and Mother Nature to raise children's awareness about environmental issues.
- Children will be able to create a piece of work inspired by Mother Nature's Manifesto. This can be sent to Bounce to be published with the playscript in a book entitled Planet Phoenix: Mother Nature's Manifesto later in the year.
CHARLIE AND THE DRAGON
By Rupert Stratton
Charlie's grandma's garden is ginormous. One day, Charlie kicks his football behind the spiky plants and bushes. Determined not to loose his favourite ball, he sets off on a quest to rescue it and comes face to face with a dragon!
Workshops are available for keystage one and two.
- Keystage One: Children will take Charlie's journey through the story in a multi sensory experience, that concludes with the creation of a sensory poetry around Charlie's story.
- Keystage Two: Here we retell the story from the dragon's point of view, creating playscripts that can be turned into short films!
Our other literacy projects include: Story Days, Traditional Tale: New Voice, Newspaper Theatre, Poetry Project, PLAYwrite and Wonderful Writers. These are innovative projects that allow Bounce practitioners to share their devising and story making expertise with children to encourage their ideas for writing. We offer additional opportunities within each workshop to incorporate multi-media into the workshops, filming of podcasting the children's work resulting in a class DVD or audio CD.

THIS IS MY VOICE: HEAR ME ROAR
A language project inspired by Charlie and the Dragon
Our HEAR ME ROAR projects focus on developing the social and emotional aspects of learning, developing self esteem and confidence within participants. In the story, the moment Charlie roars, he finds his voice and thus his courage and is no longer afraid of the dark.
This project is taught in partnership with Laura Gray, an experienced teacher of EAL children and children with behavioural problems and Bounce Theatre, to share a creative methodology of teaching. The project will look at communication skills, building confidence, trust and teamwork skills within a group through a range of art, music and drama activities. Through the project, children will develop opportunities to record their experiences and stories, resulting in a multi-arts exhibit at the end of the project.
The project also offers a range of cpd skills for teachers.
