Christmas decorations inspired by music

13 Dec 2009

The following activity is inspired by our Something Something Christmassy project.

Resources: Paint/pencils/crayons/felts/ribbon or string/piece of card for each child, scissors, hole punch, thread or ribbon

Directions: Ask children to close their eyes and take a moment to relax. Introduce Christmas music, children to begin drawing/painting patterns to the music – what colours do they think suit the music? What shapes does the music make them want to make?

Encourage children to react to the song, as opposed to try to draw anything specific – so they build ideas for shading, patterns etc. Once they have completed a page, leave it to dry if appropriate. Now children can cut bauble/Christmas trees/stars etc out of their paper, hole punch one end and thread ribbon through etc to take home a unique set of Christmas decorations.
