Bounce Theatre is offering a new anti-bullying workshop for 2011. When Words Hurt explores verbal bulling.
When Words Hurt combines performance and workshop, to reveal the effect of verbal bulling on individuals. Participants watch a short performance, created through the eyes of Jo - a victim of bullying. Through diary entries, text messages, Facebook pages and gossip, we begin to understand the effects of bullying. This is followed by a practical workshop that allows participants to to remodel scenes, to find new ways to utilise language to address and prevent bullying.
Bounce already offer another anti-bullying workshop, Don't Walk Away . This looks at how/where bullying takes place through still images. Participants build up character profiles of the people connected to the activity, leading to a variety of role play activities. This culminates in a "rainbow" where participants are able to perform their role-plays collectively. Participants are able to wonder around each others work, listening to different strategies of dealing with situations. The workshop culminates with groups remodelling their images to show how bullying can be prevented/stamped out. Groups will caption their images, which can become the basis for an anti-bullying manifesto.
