Bounce - our first gig!

25 Nov 2009

We are delighted to be hosting our first gig - 'The Big Christmas Celebration" in aid of charities working with children and street orphans in Bolivia.

The gig has been inspired by our forthcoming project Theatre in Unusual Spaces, with our THEATRELAB group. Following a six month devising project, the group will be travelling to Bolivia in July 2010 to volunteer on a number of projects that are using arts to address the issues faced by street children and orphans across the country.

What's even more special for us, is that the gig is the brainchild of one of our LAB members. Performing Arts student Reece Martin is producing the event. He was inspired to do something before July after reading about The Helping Hands project, where teenage boys his own age make friendship bracelets and paper bags to sell to fund their education and avoid a life on the streets.

The spirit of the project moved Reece to bring 22 acts together for one night to celebrate Christmas and raise money for the various projects across Bolivia. Artistic Director Louise Pendry says "I am really proud of Reece and all the people he has bought together - what a fantastic way to begin the festive season. I can't wait to watch the night and find out if what Reece says is true ... I am capable of krumping moves. I also hope that everyone supports the groups efforts and they raise the target £700 for the charities in Bolivia. This would buy everything on their wish list from nappies to painting the play room in the orphange. It will be a night that will bring home what Christmas is about."

The event takes place on the 18th December at the ACT Theatre within Kingston College. Tickets are £5/4 conc and can be purchased in advance from Bounce Theatre.

My favourite part of working with Bounce was being a superhero.
