Charlie and the Dragon - Rupert Stratton goes to print!

25 May 2009

Bounce is delighted to announce one of our associate writers, Rupert Stratton has had Charlie and the Dragon turned into a book! Charlie and the Dragon was used by the company, whilst it was being developed for a book last year. The story features a little boy, Charlie, who is scared of the corner of his grandma's garden. One day he kicks his football into the corner and decides to set off on a quest to rescue it. Summoning up all his courage he enters the corner and comes face to face with a dragon! An adventure that leads to Charlie facing his fear and finding his courage. It made the perfect story to workshop with keystage one-three, focusing on issue of change and transition. The project resulted in a sharing of work, incorporating sensory poetry around courage, devised work and performances of the play. As one group of year two students decided "Charlie's courage is red like a fire beating in your heart" because Charlie isn't scared of anything by the end of the story. The book provides numerous opportunities to entertain and enrich children's learning. Bounce Theatre did morning workshops with Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 in Spring Term in conjunction with our Creativity week. They successfully incorporated our themes of animals, colours, rain forests and space. The children were inspired and the morning was thoroughly successful.
