Bounce Theatre is delighted to announce a new project "Creative Change" for 2010.
The project aims to connect UK children and young people with children across South America. Using their creativity, children here can change lives and learn about the wider world and issues of global citizenship.
The project has been inspired by the work of a friend of Bounce's Creative Corners. Creative Corners coordinates a volunteer programme for creative teachers and artists to volunteer on projects across South America. Many of the projects supported by Creative Corners provide activities and in many instances homes to hundreds of orphans and street kids across South America. The aim being to use creativity as a means of stimulating change and providing young people with an alternative to a life on the streets. However, the lack of finance for these projects means that rooms are often bare - in one instance 30 children share one sofa, the basic joy of painting/colour/displays and toys are missing from the children's lives and thus their cognitive development suffers.
Creative Change offers an opportunity to change things. We are looking for schools to sign up to the project and become a friend of a project. All that we ask, is that once a term children in UK schools create a package to send to a project - this might be cards, games they have invented that the children could play, stories they have written that could be read to the children in the projects or decorations or paintings that could be sent there. Schools receive a pack of ideas from Bounce Theatre that offer ideas for the project and ways in which they can link into the curriculum. In return classes will receive packs back from their project, showing how the children have used their ideas to develop their skills.
Bounce's director Louise Pendry explains "There is no cost to participate in the project. Schools will receive the resources free from Bounce Theatre. The only cost implication is to post the parcel during the school year."
