Bounce Theatre is delighted to announce the launch of The Poppy Stories project with The Finest Hour .
The Finest Hour is the first event within the Poppy Stories Project. The project is run by a group of young people, who through a series of pop up history events share some of the stories, experiences and events that shaped Kingston upon Thames between 1939-45.
The Finest Hour will put together 60 minutes of Reminiscence performance, that celebrates the memories, songs, music, performance and humour that help shaped what we now read about,as the spirit of the Blitz. The performance will be followed by tea, cake and buns for the audience.
Participant, Reece Lane-Martin explains "I didn't really pay attention to history in school. If I'd have been told then for instance that Bushy Park was a base for US soldiers, I think I would of taken more of an interest, as it was on my doorstep. However, now I started this project I've become hooked on listening to personal stories and researching around WW2. When I was given a little bit of Churchill's speech to read, it made me feel that everything could standstill in a minute and everything then happened in that short period of time. It creates a picture in my head of London and makes me think that it takes a brave person to actually say yes, but it takes courage to stick to their words. This is what England did as a country and I hope through Poppy Stories we can show people that the younger generation want to care about our history. Our Finest Hour is a small dedication to their finer hours. Above all else, listening to older people's memories of the blitz really makes me start to realise what values are important to hold."
