THEATRELAB takes teenagers to sweden

28 Aug 2009

Bounce Theatre is delighted to be taking a group of young people to Sweden in September for a theatrical exchange with the New Umbrella Theatre.

THEATRELAB formed in February 2009, with resident members from Kingston, Richmond, Hounslow and Wandsworth the group have already mounted Romeo and Juliet at the Paul Robeson Theatre. This is about to be followed up by Beautiful Thing by Johnathan Harvey and Risk by John Rettallack.

The group are undertaking the exchange to explore the possibilities for making theatre when you don't speak the same language. The group will spend two days working with the Swedish group on traditional stories, but each will be given the story in their own language in order to find new ways of communication.

LAB director, Louise Pendry explains " The trip is largely a fantastic opportunity for an experiment, a chance to expand their thinking of the potential for theatre both artistically and as an opportunity to transcend cultural barriers - we can't wait to see what happens!"
