Workshops for Book Week

12 Jan 2010

Bounce is delighted to launch a set of new workshops, perfect for book week!

Bounce has opened 2010 by launching a set of new literacy projects for schools. Using new works from their writers, the projects will ignite children's imaginations with never before discovered landscapes, 21st century superheroes and an array of adventures!

The projects adopt a multi-arts focus allowing children to be writers, performers, readers, illustrators, film makers and critics! Director Louise Pendry says "Our aim is to ensure the projects appeal to different learning styles, whilst also celebrating the ways we can read through both word and image."

The works that have been created include Charlie and the Dragon by Rupert Stratton. This is the tale of a little boy who looses his football in Grandma's garden, sets off on a quest to rescue it and comes face to face with a dragon! In addition to this, we have Kirsten Hutton's Planet Phoenix - a sci-fi play script that explores the elements and the environments, along with eco actions.

Each project has a bespoke element, so schools can tweak it to suit their school aims. Charlie and the Dragon for instance can focus on using Grandma's garden as a setting for fairytale adventures or children can explore the character of Charlie and he finds his courage.

Bounce is delighted to offer a unique combination for book week, where schools can work with a drama practitioner and the writer. This will allow children to explore the book, but also meet and hotseat the writer, along with giving ideas as to how they could develop their projects for the future! Alongside this, there will be a resource pack for schools to turn their whole book week into celebrating new writing!

Bounce Theatre did morning workshops with Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 in Spring Term in conjunction with our Creativity week. They successfully incorporated our themes of animals, colours, rain forests and space. The children were inspired and the morning was thoroughly successful.
