Bounce Theatre has received funding from The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for an exciting project Keep Sakes in Kingston upon Thames. Made possible by money raised by National Lottery players, the project focuses on the history of Kingston Keep as a listed building and one of only three Keeps left in the Uk.

Working with military wives from across the Commonwealth, their children and local schools the project uncovers the history of Kingston Keep when it was a fully operating military base and how it has changed over the years. The project will culminate in the production of a large scale art work for the community room at Kingston Keep and a children’s comic book sharing the history of the site. Both of which will be produced by Bounce in collaboration with internationally recognised cartoonist David Lewis.

The Company would be delighted to hear from local residents who have memories of The Keep over the years. With the opportunity to participate in oral histories, or simply contribute online memories the collection will contribute to the project research and help local children learn about the borough of Kingston.

Artistic Director Louise Pendry says “We are thrilled to have received support thanks to HLF and are confident that the project will support military families from across the globe to feel proud to arrive in Kingston and be part of a site filled with such heritage significance. Furthermore we are delighted to be producing an accessible resource for schools to deliver their local history unit of study.”
