Threads - A Script
During 2022-2023, Bounce Theatre ran a community heritage project called “Threads of Tooting”.
The year-long project wove together 100 years of stories about the tailors, makers, and textile
businesses of Tooting in southwest London. Using interviews, research, and site visits, local people
created a series of artworks and curated celebratory events to share Tooting’s historical relationship
and untold heritage of tailoring and textiles.
Local school children listened to personal stories from the project’s research, explored local heritage
through artefacts, and came up with their own creative responses to celebrate their relationship
with clothes. This culminated in a mini exhibition depicting moments in time in fashion.
Threads of Tooting concludes with a rich resource of learning materials which was offered to local schools,
and with this script. We hope you enjoy reading it as much as we have enjoyed this project.
